Abdurrahman Köse: The Maestro of the Ten Fingers
To hear Abdurrahman Köse play is to witness the birth of a new musical language. He doesn’t just play the kanun; he makes it breathe, weep, and triumph.

Born in Frankfurt am Main into a prestigious musical dynasty, Abdurrahman’s life has been underscored by melody from his very first breath. As the son of a master clarinetist and grandson of a trumpet virtuoso, music is more than a career for him—it is his DNA. But while others are content to preserve tradition, Abdurrahman was born to redefine it.

Shifting the Paradigm

At the age of twelve, he encountered the kanun, and a lifelong obsession began. However, Abdurrahman saw possibilities where others saw limitations. Drawing on his rigorous training in European classical piano at the conservatory, he did the unthinkable: he adapted the piano’s polyphonic complexity to the 78 strings of the Kanun.

By developing his signature ten-finger technique, he shattered the boundaries of the instrument. He creates an orchestral depth and a virtuosic richness that was previously thought impossible, transforming a traditional instrument into a powerhouse of modern expression.

An Alchemist of Global Sound

Abdurrahman is a sonic traveler whose passport is written in scales and rhythms. He is a musical alchemist who seamlessly blends:

The raw passion of Andalusian Gypsy music.

The hypnotic, intricate geometries of Ottoman and Arabic traditions.

The improvisational freedom of Jazz and Funk.

The vibrant energies of Indian, Greek, and Balkan cultures.

From the recording studios of London to the spiritual landscapes of Morocco and Bulgaria, his collaborations (including the avant-garde "Zaboura Eichstaedt Experience") prove that he is a visionary who can bridge the gap between ancient heritage and digital-age innovation.

Why the World is Falling in Love with His Sound

Collaborating with Abdurrahman Köse is an invitation to be part of a musical revolution. He brings a rare combination of surgical technical perfection and profound emotional vulnerability. Whether he is leading a solo performance or elevating an international production, he infuses every project with an unmistakable, sophisticated signature.

Currently crafting his highly anticipated debut solo album, Abdurrahman is preparing to take the world on a journey between the Orient and the Occident—a journey of sound that stays in the heart long after the final string has stopped vibrating.

Abdurrahman Köse is not just a performer. He is the future of the kanun.

Imagine a world where time stands still, and the desert sands whisper secrets older than memory itself. The Kanun is not merely an instrument, it is a mystical entity, shaking the dust of eternity from its strings to sing once more.

Here is the story of the Kanun, crafted to make the world fall deeply, hopelessly in love with its magic:

The Kanun: The Echo of the Pharaohs
Born in the Cradle of the Pyramids

The legend of the Kanun does not begin in books, but in the sacred temples of Ancient Egypt. Thousands of years ago, as the Pharaohs ruled the banks of the Nile, ancestral harps and zithers were played to appease the gods. In the inscriptions of hidden tomb chambers, the knowledge of these strings remains, a bridge between the earthly realm and the divine.

The Kanun we know today is the perfected form of that ancient Egyptian sorcery. An instrument that carries the brilliance of the sun and the deep mystery of the Nile in its very wood.

Crystalline Sparks in the Darkness

When the Kanun awakens, the atmosphere shifts. Its crystalline tones are like the glint of gold in a darkened burial chamber. These exotic vibrations are as delicate as glass, yet so powerful they can shatter the walls around a human heart. To hear the Kanun is to feel the heat of the desert wind and the coolness of a hidden oasis at the exact same moment.

The Great Ancestor of Harmony

The Kanun is the Great-Great-Grandfather of the Piano. Imagine: all of Western classical music, every grand piano, every sonata—they all share the DNA of this trapezoidal masterpiece. While the scholar Al-Farabi gave it its mathematical precision in the 10th Century, its soul was already thousands of years old. It is the pure essence of music that existed long before keys and hammers ever touched a string.

Alchemy of the Soul: The Ancient Healing

In the sacred healing halls of old, the Kanun was never played for mere entertainment. It was divine medicine. Priests and sages used its frequencies for mystical therapies, knowing that its 78 strings correspond to the energy centers of the human body. A Kanun player was a healer, using their fingers to smooth the chaos of the spirit and wash away melancholy with the power of pure resonance.

The Mystery of the Silver Levers

The greatest secret of the Kanun lies in its Mandals. These small silver levers are like switches to other dimensions. They allow the player to capture the notes that live between the notes, the microtones that no other instrument can sing with such longing. It is as if the Kanun speaks a language we forgot long ago, but our blood still remembers.

The Kanun is not a relic of the past. It is an immortal force waiting for you to listen.
It is the breath of the Sphinx, the mathematics of the stars, and the heartbeat of the Orient. When the strings tremble, a journey begins that started on the banks of the Nile and will never truly end.

To encounter the Kanun is not just to hear an instrument. It is to find the key to an ancient, magical universe. Let yourself be enchanted.
